Spring Hair Care Tips

Posted on February 14 2018

With winter quickly fading, it’s time to get those locks out from under those winter hats and back in prime condition! Winter can wreak havoc on your strands – subzero temps, high winds and dry conditions from heaters can do some serious damage. Time to rehab your hair and prep it for prom/wedding/spring break season! Here are four tips to hydrate your hair and restore shine:

1. Chop Off Dead Ends

Step one for healthy hair is to chop off split ends. Visit your salon for a trim at least every three months. By trimming your damaged, broken and split ends, you will encourage hair growth.

2. Try a Deep Conditioning Hair Mask

Hair Mask for HydrationYour hair can become very dried out during the winter due to cold air, heaters, etc. and masks will help with moisturizing your hair, adding life and shine back into your hair. Hair masks can also help with dandruff, which is another wintertime symptom caused by a dry scalp. Depending on the hair mask, you will either apply it on dry hair before shampooing, or apply to damp hair, leaving it on for 10-20 minutes. You can either purchase a deep conditioning hair mask or make one at home.

3. Stop Overstyling Your Hair

If you can, try taking a hiatus from blowdrying, heat styling and coloring. Don’t sleep with your hair in a ponytail at night as your strands can break very easily from tossing and turning at night. Try using an old-school scrunchie or a fabric hair tie. If you absolutely need to blowdry your hair, try to air dry your hair as much as possible before using the blowdryer. And, be sure to use a heat protectant spray, which will shield your hair from the high temps.

4. Hydrate, hydrate hydrate!
Hair HydrationYour hair is a reflection of how you treat the inside of your body as well – eat healthy and drink at least 8 glasses of water a day. Hydrate the ends of your hair daily by applying a lightweight oil or cream on the ends.
